An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

This post may be in an ASD class or mainstream class depending upon the needs of the school. One application is sufficient to be considered for both positions.
Birdhill NS is a mainstream school with two ASD classes and promotes inclusion and reverse inclusion where possible. The ability to work effectively with the class team, support staff, multi-disciplinary teams and parents/guardians is essential. Experience with challenging behaviour, intimate care needs and the ability to work as part of a team is a necessity in order to facilitate successful integration.
Knowledge and experience of teaching children with Autism and complex needs, TEACCH, PECs, Lámh, positive behaviour strategies, first aid, manual handling, etc would be a distinct advantage.
A strong knowledge of the Continuum of Support process as well as a passion for highly differentiated teaching is a requirement. Knowledge of the planning and implementation of teaching methodologies e.g. LLO, Guided Reading, Talk Boost, Mata sa Rang and familiarity with Aistear and the new language curriculum is essential.

The successful candidates must be ready to start school for a Staff Training day on Wed 26th of August 2020. The school opens to children on Thurs 27th August.
