Special Class Teacher - Nenagh Community Special School, Permanent, Full Time, 25 hours per week- Newly established class.
Additional Information:
Nenagh Community Special School is a special school under the patronage of Tipperary ETB which will cater for pupils with a dual diagnosis of autism and complex needs or a diagnosis of complex needs, from the ages of 4-18 years. The school opened in 2025 with 2 classrooms catering for a total of 12 children.
Nenagh Community Special School will provide both the Primary and Post-Primary curricula, including Junior and Senior cycle L1 and L2 learning programmes.
The successful candidate will be registered under Route 1 (Primary), Route 4 (Other) or Route 2 (Post Primary) with the Teaching Council.
Some of the complex needs with which students may require support include communication needs, multiple disabilities, social/emotional needs and sensory processing difficulties. Prior experience of supporting students with these special needs is highly desirable.
Experience supporting students with behaviours of concern and is advantageous.
The successful applicant will work closely alongside a team of SNAs. Excellent interpersonal, communication and team skills are essential.
Training will be provided to Nenagh Community Special School throughout the school year. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a newly established special school.
Duties to include:
• Experience teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including autism and complex needs, particularly with moderate, severe or profound GLDs and sensory processing/regulation needs.
• Knowledge of the Primary School Curriculum and relevant Post-Primary Curricula as well as differentiated and holistic teaching methodologies.
• To work as part of a team to provide holistic, individualised programmes and employ appropriate strategies within the assigned class.
• Strong understanding of Student Support Planning and ability to set SMART targets.
• Ability to implement interventions, teaching approaches, and relationship and regulation first based support strategies suitable to the individual needs within the class.
• To work and teach in line with the school wide approaches and culture, and to support students with behaviours of concern.
