Scoil Muire agus Treasa (Swinford N.S.) NS is an established primary school with a Catholic ethos, operating under the patronage of the Diocese of Achonry.

We currently have 205 children enrolled in our school, across 8 mainstream classes and 1 autism class.
We are designated as a DEIS Rural school.

Staff consists of 13 full time teachers, 5 SNAs, secretary, caretaker, cleaner and bus escort.


The Board of Management of Swinford NS invites applications for the position of Deputy Principal. This is a permanent position and the appointment will be made via open competition.
The Deputy Principal will work with the Principal and with the in-school leadership team to support and develop effective leadership and management within the school.

Recruitment will be in line with Circular 0044/2019 and so the selection of the successful candidate shall be based on four competencies which are aligned to the Quality Framework for Leadership and Management, which are:
1. Leading Learning and Teaching
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading school development
4. Developing leadership capacity.


In line with the above domains and working closely with the Principal, the duties attached to the role involve whole school curricular development, policy development, day-to-day management of resources and personnel and long-term strategic planning for the future development of the school.

The successful candidate must hold a certificate to teach religion in a Catholic school. The Deputy Principal will be expected to uphold and promote the ethos, values, and traditions of the school.

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria: Fully registered under Route 1 (Primary) with the Teaching Council and have 5 years recognised teaching service, two of which must be in a recognised primary school within the Republic of Ireland.
