The BOM of Annaduff National School invites applicants for the position of Deputy Principal. This is a permanent position and the appointment will be made via open competition under the terms of Circular 0044/2019. Annaduff National School is a vertical primary school in County Leitrim. The school has a dedicated professional team of staff who promote teaching and learning in a positive school environment.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities for this position relate to the four domains of Leadership and Management outlined below from ‘Looking at our School, 2022: A Quality framework for Primary Schools and Special Schools’.
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The Deputy Principal’s responsibilities and duties will be carried out in partnership and cooperation with the Principal, with flexibility to meet the daily needs of the school. These duties involve the daily management of resources and personnel in the school and in long term strategic planning for the development of the school. The Deputy Principal will assist in the daily organisation of school activities, school planning and policy development and will deputise for the Principal in the event of his/ her absence or unavailability at school or other school related meetings or events.
So that the changing needs of the school are met the roles and responsibilities of this post will be subject to ongoing review. Candidates are advised to read circular 0044/2019, in advance of completing an application.
Applicants must meet eligible criteria:
Applicants must be fully registered with the Teaching Council and have at least 5 years recognised teaching service, two of which must be in a primary school within the Republic of Ireland. Applicants must have a recognised qualification to teach Religious Education.
The following skills, experience and knowledge are desirable:
An excellent knowledge and understanding of Leadership, Management and Administration in a primary school setting;
Post graduate studies and other relevant professional development especially in the area of leadership;
A commitment to shared leadership and a willingness to delegate, to develop leadership capacity and to empower others;
Have proven leadership skills including in policy development and implementation and in prioritising, planning and organising workload / PIEW model
Demonstrate evidence of working as an effective team member with particular regard to mentoring / Droichead;
An understanding of SSE (School Self-Evaluation) policy development and implementation;
Effective interpersonal, communication and people management skills and a proven ability to work as a member of a team in a collaborative manner;
An in-depth knowledge of the Curriculum and a range of teaching experience over various class levels and settings;
A clear understanding and knowledge of special education, inclusive education and diversity in education;
Knowledge of and a commitment to the values, vision and catholic ethos of our school;
An ability to work with staff and outside agencies to promote pupil wellbeing and provide children with the knowledge, skills and competencies to help them deal with challenges;
Have a proven ability to work collaboratively with all staff members, Board of Management and the wider school community;
