An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

Errew National School is a vertical, co-educational rural school under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Tuam, Bishop Francis Duffy.

The Board of Management of Errew N.S invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Principal. This is a permanent position to be appointed through open competition in line with Circular 0044/2019.
The appointment process will be governed by the terms of Circular 0044/2019. The roles and responsibilities for the post relate directly to the four domains of leadership and management as set out in Circular 0044/2019 and “Looking at our Schools 2022: A Quality Framework for Primary Schools and Special Schools”:
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
• A strong understanding of, and a clear commitment to, upholding the Catholic ethos, values and traditions of the school.
• Proven leadership, administrative and management experience within a primary school setting. Along with excellent interpersonal, communication and people management skills.
• Knowledge and experience in the area of special educational needs, together with a string commitment to inclusion in education.
• A thorough knowledge and understanding of the Primary School Curriculum and of effective teaching and learning practices in a primary school setting.
• Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative school-based projects and policies.
• A proven ability to build and sustain positive, collaborative relationships with staff, pupils, parents, the Board of Management and external agencies. Continue to build and maintain the positive relationships built with the local community and parent body.
• Evidence of continuing professional development, most particularly in the line of school leadership.
Application Requirements:
• Fully registered with the Teaching Council (Route 1 – Primary).
• Applicants are required to have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience, two of which must be in a recognised primary School in Ireland.
• It is a requirement to hold a recognised Certificate to Teach Religious Education.
• The appointment will be subject to Patron Approval, Garda Vetting requirements, Occupational Health Screening and satisfactory references.
• A minimum of three valid applications is required for the competition to proceed.
It is a requirement to hold a valid Statutory Declaration and to complete the Form of Undertaking for this position upon offer of employment.
