Additional Information:
St. Colmcille’s S.N.S., Knocklyon is currently recruiting one Bus Escort to accompany and support a pupil travelling to and from school each day.
The successful applicant must be available to meet the school transport at the designated pick-up and drop-off point.
Hours of Work
This is a part-time position during school terms, Monday to Friday, for approximately 30 minutes per day:
• Morning: approximately 8.35am–8.50am
• Afternoon: approximately 2.30pm–2.45pm
Times may be slightly shorter or longer depending on traffic conditions.
Person Specification
The successful candidate should:
• Have experience working with children with autism.
• Have an understanding of children with additional needs.
• Be caring, patient and reliable.
• Be able to communicate effectively and deal professionally with parents/guardians and school staff.
• Have fluency in English.
Key Responsibilities
The Bus Escort will be responsible for:
• Assisting the pupil to safely enter and exit the vehicle.
• Ensuring the pupil is securely seated using the appropriate seat belt or safety equipment.
• Supervising and supporting the pupil throughout the journey, ensuring their safety and comfort.
• Handing over the pupil to a designated member of school staff in the morning and to a parent/guardian in the afternoon.
• Liaising with school staff and parents/guardians as required and acting as a point of communication where necessary.
• Maintaining a high level of confidentiality and respecting the pupil’s privacy, dignity and wellbeing at all times.
• Carrying out any additional duties relevant to the role as assigned by the Principal.
Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to:
• Provide at least two current referees and their contact details.
• Satisfy the school’s Garda Vetting requirements.
• Hold a valid Statutory Declaration and complete the Form of Undertaking upon offer of employment.
• Complete the Tusla Children First E-Learning 1-hour online course.
The appointment is subject to satisfactory references and Garda Vetting.
Rate of Pay
The hourly rate of pay is in line with Department of Education guidelines for School Bus Escorts: €15.98 per hour.
Payment is processed weekly during school term time. Bus Escorts are not paid during school holidays but receive holiday pay in accordance with the applicable arrangements.
