Gorthaganny National School is a co-educational primary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Elphin. The school invites applications for a part-time Special Needs Assistant (SNA) position (0.25 of a full-time post – 8 hours per week) for the 2026/2027 school year.
The successful candidate will initially be assigned to support pupils in mainstream classes. This assignment is subject to change in accordance with the care needs of pupils and the operational requirements of the school.
The position is subject to NCSE allocation, SENO review and Department of Education sanction. The successful candidate may be required to work with one or more pupils presenting with a range of care needs and may be assigned to support pupils in different classes, as determined by the needs of the school.
Candidates should:
Hold the minimum qualifications for appointment as a Special Needs Assistant as set out by the Department of Education.
Be flexible, reliable and capable of working as part of a collaborative school team.
Demonstrate an ability to support pupils with a range of additional care needs while promoting their independence, inclusion and wellbeing.
Be willing to participate in relevant continuing professional development.
Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, current Garda Vetting requirements, and occupational health screening where applicable.
