The Board of Management of Leckaun National School invites applications from suitably qualified primary teachers for the position of Special Education Teacher (Job-Sharing Partner) for the 2026/27 school year.

This is a fixed-term post based in Leckaun N.S. The successful candidate will join an approved job-sharing arrangement, with the job-sharing calendar to be confirmed before the start of the school year, in accordance with the school’s Job-Sharing Policy, which is available on the Policies page of our school website: https://leckaunns.blogspot.com/p/enrolment-policy.html

Leckaun N.S. is a small, rural, co-educational, multi-grade vertical school under Catholic patronage, with two mainstream class teachers and a Special Education Teacher (SET) post.

Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge:
– Previous experience in a Special Education Teacher role, or relevant experience supporting children with a range of special educational needs in a mainstream primary-school setting, ideally including a multi-grade setting.
– Strong practical knowledge of Department of Education Circular 0064/2024 and the accompanying Guidelines for Primary Schools: Supporting Children with Special Educational Needs in Mainstream Classes.
– Familiarity with the SET allocation model for the 2026/27 school year (Circular 0011/2026).
– Sound knowledge and practical application of the Continuum of Support and its problem-solving process of identification, assessment, intervention and review.
– The ability to identify children’s strengths, interests and priority learning needs; set appropriate learning targets; plan evidence-informed interventions; and monitor and review progress.
– Experience of developing, implementing and reviewing Student Support Files and Student Support Plans in collaboration with class teachers, parents or guardians, pupils and other relevant professionals.
– The ability to use a flexible range of teaching approaches, including team teaching, early intervention, in-class support, small-group teaching and individual support or withdrawal, where appropriate.
– Strong communication and collaborative skills, including the ability to work effectively with the Principal, class teachers, parents or guardians, pupils, SNAs and external agencies and services, including NEPS and the NCSE.
– A commitment to inclusive practice, pupil participation and wellbeing, effective transition planning and ongoing teacher professional learning.
