An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

The Board of Management of Knockainey National School invites applications for two fixed term positions for one academic year 2026/2027:
1. Fixed Term position, 1 year 2026/2027, FULL TIME Special Needs Assistant. It will involve working every school day, all day, Mon- Fri. This may be subject to change.
2. Fixed Term position, 1 year 2026/2027, PART TIME (Job Share) Special Needs Assistant. This is a fixed-term JOB SHARE position. It will involve working in a Wednesday- Tuesday arrangement, eg working Wed, Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues and then off Wed, Thurs, Fri, Mon, Tues in a repeated pattern for the academic year. This may be subject to change.
Experience of working with children with Epilepsy, Diabetes, A.S.D., an intellectual disability, a physical disability, emotional and behavioural difficulties, assistance with personal hygiene, peg feeding and intimate care needs and using communication tools are desirable.
Candidates must be willing to undertake courses which relate to the needs of the children and the school. Experience of working with children with autism, is desirable as positions may be allocated by the principal to mainstream or the special class for Autism.
Duties include working with children of all ages, assisting children with intimate care, accessing activities, and supporting students with challenging behaviour and complex needs.
Candidates must be able to work well as part of a team especially with fellow job-share partner, be flexible and show willingness to engage in further training and upskilling, as deemed necessary by the principal.
This appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, current vetting requirements and OHS requirements. Posts are allocated by NCSE and are subject to review.
