The Board of Management of Dominican College, Galway, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Irish teacher to join our team.
Our school prides itself on fostering a positive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
This contract is for 18 hours per week to cover for a teacher on parental leave. These hours may increase weekly with additional substitution. The contract will commence on Thursday 27th August 2026 and continue until Tuesday 22nd December 2026 academic year.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver high-quality Irish lessons across relevant year groups in line with the Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate curricula.
• Foster a positive learning environment that promotes students’ confidence in speaking, reading, and writing in Irish.
• Differentiate lessons to support students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support cross-curricular initiatives and whole-school planning.
• Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and maintain accurate records.
• Promote Irish language and culture within the wider school community.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the school’s educational life.
Essential Requirements
• A recognised degree in Irish (or with Irish as a major subject).
• Current registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland with Irish recognised as a teaching subject.
• Strong classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and support students.
• Commitment to inclusive practice, student wellbeing, and whole-school initiatives.
• Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience
• Ability to integrate ICT and digital tools into the teaching and learning of Irish.
• Experience in preparing students for state examinations in Irish.
• Experience in supporting students with learning needs in language acquisition.
• Involvement in extracurricular activities promoting Irish language and culture.
