The Board of Management of St. Christopher’s Special School invites applications for the position of Administrative Deputy Principal. This is a permanent position commencing on January 5th 2025.
St. Christopher’s Special School is a community where all pupils are equally valued and respected. It provides an education to pupils with a Moderate General Learning Disability, pupils with a Severe Profound General Learning Disability and Pupils with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder within the Moderate to Severe Range. The age range of our pupils is from 4 to 18 years. Many pupils have additional complex needs and/or multiple disabilities and medical needs.
We are seeking a Deputy Principal who shares our deep commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and caring school culture, someone who leads through relationships and partnership, building trust and connection with children, staff, families and the wider community.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal as part of the senior leadership team to support the day to day running and strategic leadership of the school. The Deputy Principal will deputise for the Principal in their absence.
The roles responsibilities of this post relate to the four domains of leadership and management as specified in circular 0044/2019

4.Developing Leadership Capacity
Eligibility Criteria For Appointment:
Applicants must be fully registered under Route 1 (Primary), Route 4 (Other) or Route 2 (Post Primary) with the Teaching Council and have 5 years recognised teaching service, two of which must be in a recognised primary school or post-primary within the Republic of Ireland.
The following skills, experience and knowledge are desirable:
• A broad range of teaching experience including teaching experience with special needs pupils and in particular pupils who display behaviours of concern
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with all staff and members of the school community
• Experience in a leadership role
• Experience prioritising, planning and organising a busy workload
• Evidence of a commitment to Continuous Professional Development
• Previous experience in Curriculum and Policy Development
Appointments will be subject to current Teaching Council Registration, Garda Vetting and an Occupational Health Assessment.
