The Board of Management of Dominican College, Galway, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic French and SEN teacher to join our team. Our school prides itself on fostering a positive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
This contract is for 15 hours per week (9 hours French and 6 hours Learning Support) and arises from a maternity leave vacancy. There is a strong likelihood that the successful applicant will have the opportunity to increase their weekly hours through additional substitution, if desired. The contract will commence on Monday, 29th September 2025, and will run until Easter 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver high-quality French lessons across all year groups in line with the Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate curricula.
• Provide targeted Learning Support, both in small-group settings and through in-class support, to meet a range of student needs.
• Assess and monitor student progress, adapting teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes student confidence and engagement.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the French and SEN departments.
• Promote cultural awareness and appreciation of the French language through varied and engaging learning experiences.
• Participate in whole-school initiatives, extracurricular activities, and school events.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the wider school community.
Essential Requirements:
• A recognised degree in French and/or a recognised teaching qualification with French as a subject.
• Current registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland, with French recognised as a teaching subject.
• Strong classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and support students of all levels.
• A passion and enthusiasm for French and supporting students with additional educational needs.
• Commitment to inclusive practice, student wellbeing, and whole-school initiatives.
• Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
• Additional qualifications or experience in Special Educational Needs, Learning Support, or related fields.
• Experience developing differentiated resources for students with a variety of learning needs.
• Familiarity with digital tools to support teaching, learning, and assessment in French and Learning Support.
• Experience promoting cultural engagement through activities such as French clubs, exchanges, or events.
