This teaching role includes teaching in an Autism Mild/Mod GLD and Complex Needs Class in St Killian’s School. The successful candidate must have experience working with pupils with ASD, Mild/Mod GLD and Complex Needs in a Special School Setting. Knowledge of the modified curriculum is necessary. Experience of behaviours of concern strategies is essential, a relevant qualification/professional development in this area would be desirable. The successful candidate must have experience with non-verbal communication strategies, toileting and physical behaviours of concern.The successful candidate should have MAPA/CPI or Team Teach Training up to date, or an awareness of one of these courses. These skills are essential to the role. A sound knowledge of positive behaviour reinforcement, choice boards and negotiated schedules is required. Experience and or professional development in Teacch/ PECs/Lamh or other communication strategies would be an advantage. Ability to work effectively with the class team and support staff is essential. The successful candidate will be working with ASD Mild/Mod GLD colleagues and 2-3 SNAs within the class setting. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with the class team, directing learning plans, organising quality learning resources and deploying the staff team effectively to ensure a high level of health and safety at all times. Managing the class team to deploy available resources for the most effective interventions for the pupils is essential. The successful candidate must be cognisant with Pupil Support Plans, Individual Pupil Risk Assessment Plans and also Class Risk Assessment Plans. Ability to manage a high volume of paperwork/record keeping is essential including; IEP Planning, ABLLs records, Class Planning, Pupil Support Plans, Behaviour Support Plans (individual), CPI Pupil Planning (or similar), Behaviour Tracking, Data for Target Behaviours and planning to reduce these if they pose a risk to self(pupil), peers or staff. In September 2025 St Killian’s School will be retaining it’s second Post-Primary Class for pupils with Autism and Complex Needs and Mild/Mod GLD. An ability/willingness to teach mixed Post-Primary Classes for JCP Level 1 and Level 2 Programmes is essential. Strong skills in record keeping and evidence based assessment are essential for the Post-Primary provision.
