An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
St. John of God Special School is seeking a new Principal with a passion for empowering students with special educational needs. The new principal will lead the teaching and learning for pupils aged to 18 years.
St. John of God Special School is under the trusteeship of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God and patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin.
Applicants for the post must meet the following criteria:
• It is expected that applicants will have a clear understanding of and a commitment to the Catholic ethos of the school. Applicants must hold a certificate to teach Religious Education.
• Be fully registered with the Teaching Council under Route 1 (Primary), Route 4 (Other).
• Have 5 years recognised teaching service, two of which must be in a recognised primary school within the Republic of Ireland.
• Have experience teaching children who have a diagnosis of moderate general learning disability, severe and profound general learning disabilities, Autism, complex needs, Down Syndrome and other Special Education Needs.
• Competent in and good knowledge of Lámh.
In addition, a post-graduate qualification in Special Education is desirable.
The Roles and responsibilities for this post are determined by the four domains of leadership and management, as specified in Circular 0044/2019:
1. Leading teaching and learning.
2. Managing the organisation.
3. Leading school development.
4. Developing leadership capacity.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate:
• A commitment to continue to lead and strengthen the ethos of the school.
• Knowledge and capacity to successfully lead teaching and learning.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, the Board of Management and wider school community.
• Experience in prioritising, planning and organising workload.
• An in-depth knowledge of the relevant curricula.
• Experience in policy development.
• Understanding and knowledge of special education needs including moderate general learning disability, severe and profound general learning disabilities, Autism, complex needs, Down Syndrome and other Special Education Needs.
• Experience in the development, implementation, operation and evaluation of innovative school-based initiatives.
• Ability to promote a culture of learning and creativity in the school
• A proven experience in prioritising, planning and policy development.
• Organisational capabilities in managing school resources and proven administrative skills.
• A competency in using a wide range of ICT and AT skills.
• A commitment to continuous professional development.
