Panel of Applicants:
An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
St Killian’s is a special primary school for pupils with a range of diagnoses including SLD/ASD/SSLD/DCD.

We have an increase of pupils to 107 in September and a related staff increase also.

POSTS: 1 Permanent Post and 1 Fixed Term Full-Time to cover a Career-Break and 1 Fixed Term to cover a Job-Share (0.5) there is also a Maternity Leave Contract.

Currently there are three class streams in St Killians.
Multi-Stream Classes-Pupils with a diagnosis of SLD/SSLD/DCD and/or ASD.
Autism Class Stream-Primary Diagnosis of Autism and mild/moderate GLD.
Autism Class Stream-Post Primary Pupils

Candidates are required to have minimum qualifications as per Department of Education and Skills Guidelines.

FETAC Level 5 in SEN or similar is essential, other desirable qualifications include: CPI, First Aid, Lámh, AAC, diabetes awareness, emergency epilepsy medication training. Please include details of any courses in your application.

It would also be essential for candidates to have worked in a special school/special class setting and have experience of working with pupils with ASD, Communication Difficulties, PECs, Lamh, Behaviours of Concern and pupils who require intimate care (toilet training and changing nappies) and administration of medication.

A proven ability to support the class team in pupil progress reviews, contribution to IEP planning and Pupil Support Plans is essential.

A proven ability to work in high care needs environments and to support pupils through the development of behaviour modification plans in conjunction with the Class Teacher is desirable.

A proven ability working as a team is essential, with a focus at all times on Safety, Welfare and Care of pupils. To understand the dimensions of escalated behaviours and to suggest and contribute ideas to managing these safely with the dignity of the child and their peers in mind.

A proven ability and willingness to develop pupil specific resources in consultation with the class teacher is essential, such as sensory integration resources, sensory play resources, shoe-box tasks and movement/art based interventions.

A willingness to support pupil development and experience of early water skills (Hot Tub) and swimming where appropriate would be desirable.

Experience in a Post Primary Special Class setting would be an advantage.
