The position is a child care worker in our Early Start Pre-school. Early Start is for children aged between 3 and 5 years. The Early Start operates under the direction of the Board of Management of Saint Bernadette’s Junior National School.
Child care workers are public servants and on the payroll of the Department of Education. Childcare workers are appointed on point 6 of the SNA pay scale.
The minimum qualification for childcare workers is a Major Award in Childcare/Early Education at Level 5 on the NFQ or its equivalent.
It is preferable for candidates to have experience of working in a childcare/early education setting which caters for children from 3 to 5 years of age.
Every Early Start classroom is staffed by a primary school teacher and a child care worker. There are up to 15 pupils in the classroom. The Child care worker works under the direction of and in conjunction with the teacher to organise and implement learning activities for the children in their care.
The Child Care Worker will be required to work primary school classroom hours and, in addition, to attend before and after school in order to help with preparation and tidying up of classrooms etc.
