The Board of Management of Kilfenora National School (Roll No. 20149W) invites applications for the post of deputy principal to take effect from the 29th of August 2025. The school is under the patronage of the Bishop of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora. This is a permanent appointment, and the appointment will be made via open competition as per the eligibility criteria and conditions laid out in Circular 0044/2019.
The deputy principal will:
- work with the principal to support the overall development and direction of the school.
- be required to deputise for the principal in their absence, in all matters organisational and administrative within the school.
- be willing to participate in the leadership role outside of the standard school day.
Specific roles and responsibilities for this position relate to the four domains of leadership and management as outlined in Circular 0044/2019 as follows:
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
In accordance with Circular 0044/2019, it should be noted that as the needs of the school evolve, a review of duties may result in reassignment of the role and responsibilities within the leadership and management team.
The following skills, experience and knowledge are desirable:
- An understanding of and a commitment to the values, vision and ethos of Kilfenora National School.
- Evidence of and commitment to continuing professional development and the ability to promote a culture of learning and creativity in the school.
- A clear understanding of School Self Evaluation (SSE) and experience of the implementation of effective initiatives for school improvement.
- Proven ability to work as a member of a team in a collaborative manner.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be fully registered with the Teaching Council under Route 1 - Primary.
A minimum of 3 valid applications are required for the competition to proceed.
The closing date and time for applications is Thursday, 5th of June, at 3.00p.m.
