An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
St Michael’s CoI NS is a primary school operating under the patronage of the Church of Ireland Bishop of Cork Cloyne and Ross. We are a mainstream vertical school with two autism classes.
This vacancy is half time post (0.5 of a full time post), created by a job share position. The working pattern will be every Thursday, Friday and every second Wednesday.
The successful candidate can be allocated to any SNA role in the school at any time, at the discretion of the school principal. This includes mainstream classes as well as our autism classes.
Being a caring school is important to us and therefore teamwork, innovation, communication and collegiality are vital to be successful on our team. We are a child centred school and enabling each child to reach their full potential is one of our core aims.
Criteria for this position are as follows:
1. Relevant qualifications and experience - Applicants must have the minimum qualification necessary for appointment as a Special Needs Assistant, which is an award of Grade D (or pass) in Irish, English and Mathematics in the Intermediate Certificate/Junior Certificate or the Day Vocational Certificate Examination or in an examination of equivalent standard. An additional qualification in additional/special needs care and/or education, including autism or a related area is advantageous.
2. As Restorative Practice is one of our core principles relevant CPD in, and a good understanding of Restorative Practice would be highly desirable.
3. Knowledge and experience of working in a class for autistic children.
5. Flexibility, team work and initiative
6. Communication and personal values relevant to our school ethos.
