Emo National School, Emo, Portlaoise, Co. Laois is a Co-educational Catholic School in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin. The school's Patron is Bishop Denis Nulty. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a commitment to continue to lead and strengthen the Catholic ethos of the school. The successful candidate must have a recognised qualification to teach Religious Education.
Emo NS has recently opened two Special Classes for children with Autism. The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding and knowledge of special education needs, inclusion and diversity in education.
Applicants must be fully registered with the Teaching Council and have a minimum of five years teaching experience in a recognised Primary School. The roles and responsibilities of the post are determined by the four domains of Leadership and Management as specified in DES circular 0044/2019
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The successful candidate will demonstrate their experience and understanding in each of these domains and be an excellent communicator with the strong interpersonal skills which are required to lead and maintain a committed, vibrant and progressive school community.
The following skills, knowledge, experience and competencies are desirable:
• An excellent level of understanding and knowledge of school leadership and have experience of management and administration in a primary school setting.
• An understanding of and commitment to the ethos of Emo National School.
• Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with all staff members, Board of Management, parents/ guardians and the wider school community.
• A commitment to shared leadership and a willingness to delegate and develop leadership capacity and empower others.
• An in depth knowledge of the Primary Curriculum, a wide range of teaching experience, and have a clear understanding and knowledge of the requirements associated with the provision of education needs, inclusion and diversity.
• Demonstrate a commitment to promoting a variety of Extra-Curricular Activities (e.g. Music, Sport, The Arts and STEM) among the school pupils.
