The CRC School caters primarily for children with a physical disability - many children have an accompanying disability or medical needs. This is a one-to-one position supporting one student with complex medical needs to and from school on school transport. The contract is for 3 hours per day. The route will start in Tyrrelstown, Dublin 15. The bus escort will be required to suction the child when needed en route to school and home. The bus escort will be required to under go training for this purpose.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal.


Responsibilities:

- For the safety of the child when opening and closing doors prior to stop and move off
- For safety of the child for the time in which they are travelling and until they can hand over to school staff / parent / responsible person
- Assisting the child on and off the bus safely
- Making sure the child is seated with appropriate straps. Harnesses secured before bus leaves the home / school
- Ensure that the child is received by some responsible person at drop off point

Duties:

- Maintain good relationships with parents and school staff
- Act as a liaison between Principal and / or class teacher and parents when required by the principal
- Observe confidentiality in all aspects of work
- Be aware of particular disability / medical condition of the child on the bus
- When required, suction the child en route to school / home
- Perform any other duties relevant to the position of school bus escort which may be assigned by the Principal from time to time.
- -Unless there are exceptional circumstances, the school bus escort is not to leave the bus.

Application

Candidates should have experience in working with children, have an understanding of special needs and be able to deal with parents and school staff in a professional manner.
Candidates must take part in regular training including manual handling and child protection.
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
Excellent attendance record is also essential.
Successful candidates are subject to garda vetting and reference checking.
