An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
We are seeking enthusiastic, caring and committed Special Needs Assistants who demonstrate a genuine interest in supporting the educational, social and personal development of each of our students.
Experience working in a special education setting, preferably in a special school, is essential. The successful candidate will possess the skills, knowledge and experience required to work effectively with pupils who have complex educational, physical, behavioural and medical needs.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
Flexibility and adaptability.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
A calm, patient and positive disposition.
Confidence and competence in supporting students who present with behaviours of concern.
Strong supervision skills.
Initiative and the ability to work independently when required.
Essential experience includes supporting students with:
Personal care, including toileting and personal hygiene.
FEDS (Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing).
Manual handling and hoisting.
Behaviours of concern.
Physiotherapy programmes.
Speech and Language Therapy programmes.
Occupational Therapy programmes.
Experience in the use of iPads, assistive technology, computer programmes, switches, interactive whiteboards and Lámh sign language is desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate proven experience in supporting physically strong students who present with behaviours of concern.
