An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.

St. Oliver Plunkett National School provides a unique two-year placement for mainstream pupils aged 8–12 years who are of average or above-average ability and have a professionally diagnosed Specific Learning Difficulty (Dyslexia). The school has seven classes, each with a pupil ratio of 9:1, enabling highly personalised teaching and learning. Teachers work in a role similar to that of a Special Education Teacher, while having responsibility for their own small mainstream class.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience teaching in a mainstream primary school and a particular interest in literacy teaching and learning. They will be a reflective, enthusiastic teacher who is able to work independently while also contributing positively to our supportive, collaborative and highly engaged staff team.
While experience or qualifications in special education or supporting pupils with dyslexia are very welcome, they are not a prerequisite for this position. In-house training and ongoing professional support will be provided to ensure all new teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to support pupils with dyslexia effectively.
A new annual allowance of €2,525 has been put in place for teachers working in schools, such as ours, with a special school designation.
