The Board of Management of St. Anne’s National School invites applications for the post of Administrative Deputy Principal. This permanent post will be appointed through open competition in line with Circular 0044/2019.
The school is a co-educational, vertical primary school with a Catholic ethos under the patronage of the Bishop of Kilmore, Martin Hayes.
St. Anne’s National School is a vibrant and dynamic school in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan with 15 mainstream classes, 6 special classes (Early Intervention Class, Mild GLD Class and 4 Autism Support Classes). The school aims to provide an inclusive, welcoming and nurturing environment where all pupils can flourish. It offers a broad and holistic education, and the pupils are well served by a dedicated and hardworking team of teachers, SNAs, ancillary staff and school management.
The Deputy Principal is required to exercise flexibility and full involvement in the school, working in partnership with and under the direction of the Principal to meet its day-to-day needs. This includes deputising in the Principal’s absence and upholding the school’s ethos and policies. Central to the role is a responsive, evidence-informed approach to leadership, adapting to changing needs and contexts in a reflective and proactive manner. The roles and responsibilities of the Deputy Principal relate to the four domains of leadership and management as outlined in Circular 0044/2019 and in Looking at Our School: A Quality Framework for Primary Schools And Special Schools (2022):

• Managing the Organisation
• Leading School Development

Eligibility Criteria for Appointment
• Applicants must be fully registered with the Teaching Council (Route 1, Primary) and have a minimum of five years recognised teaching service, two of which must be in a recognised primary school within the Republic of Ireland.
• The successful candidate must hold a certificate to teach Religion in a Catholic School.
• Appointment to this position will be subject to reference checks and Occupational Health screening, current and continuing Teaching Council registration, current Garda vetting requirements and proof of qualifications.

Understanding of and demonstrated experience in the following areas is desirable:
• An understanding of, and commitment to, upholding the Catholic Ethos of the school.
• Experience and knowledge of Leadership, Management and Administration in Primary Schools.
• A clear vision for leading quality learning, teaching and assessment, with a strong understanding of the DEIS context and planning processes for school improvement, where equity and inclusion are central, and demonstrated experience in strategic and school development planning.
• A strong commitment to inclusive education, with proven capacity to lead and support learning, teaching and assessment in the area of Special Educational Needs, Inclusive Education and Diversity.
• An in-depth understanding of the Primary Curriculum Framework and Primary Curriculum, with a broad range of teaching experience, policy development and demonstrated capacity in leading curricula change.
• Highly effective interpersonal, intrapersonal, communication and negotiation skills with a proven capacity in successfully leading and managing people/teams.
• Evidence of the ability to work collaboratively and develop positive relationships with families, wider school community and liaise with external agencies and support services.
• Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative and evidence-based initiatives.
• Ability to provide pastoral care, promote pupil and staff wellbeing, parental involvement and the promotion of positive behaviour strategies;
• A commitment to lead and promote the development of pupil voice, choice and a culture of learning and creativity.
• A commitment to, and evidence of continuing professional development
• Strong organisational and time-management skills, with experience in prioritising and managing competing priorities effectively.
• A commitment to shared leadership and a willingness to delegate, develop leadership capacity and empower others.
