Additional Information:
St. Mary’s Special School, under the patronage of the Brothers of Charity, is a co-educational school providing education for pupils aged 4–18 years who have been assessed as functioning within the Mild General Learning Disability range. Many of our pupils present with multiple disabilities. We also cater for students who have a diagnosis of Autism with a co-occuring Mild/Moderate Learning Disability.
Essential Skills & Experience
Previous experience working in a special school or special class with children who have an intellectual disability and/or Autism.
Demonstrated commitment to special education, including relevant CPD.
Awareness of MAPA, Dynamis, or similar approaches to managing behaviours of concern.
Desirable Skills & Attributes
Flexibility and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Strong skills in building positive relationships with families and Multi-Disciplinary Teams.
A willingness to contribute to the wider school community by sharing personal talents, interests, or initiatives.
Experience or knowledge of Junior Cycle Level 1/Level 2, Mild General Learning Disability Guidelines, or the Primary Curriculum.
Familiarity with Total Communication approaches.
Eligibility
This position is open to teachers recognised by the Teaching Council under Routes 1, 2, and 4.
