Additional Information:
St. Gabriel's School is a special school for students with a primary diagnosis of a complex physical disability plus or minus complex medical needs. The majority of students have also been assessed as having learning difficulties ranging from mild to severe/profound.
The school caters for 65 students from 4 to 18 years of age. Primary aged students follow the National Primary Curriculum. Secondary aged students follow the junior cycle and senior cycle curriculum at L1 and L2 learning programmes.
Most classes have a team of 1 teacher and 3 SNAs to help cater for the elevated level of need.
Promoting students’ access to the curriculum is an ongoing focus for the school. The school is growing a total communication approach and developing the use of assistive technology. Experience of teaching in a special school will be considered highly desirable as will leading a team of SNAs and managing a programme of student support.
The school is located next to, and has a close working relationship with, the St. Gabriel’s Foundation.
The Department of Education and Youth has assigned an additional 18 hours teaching for the subjects of PE and Home Economics. Reviewed annually.
