The Board of Management of Hewetson School invites applications for the position of Principal Teacher from Sept 1st 2025. This is a Teaching Principal post. Hewetson School is a co-educational primary school under the Patronage of the Church of Ireland, Bishop of Meath and Kildare.
Hewetson School has 4 mainstream teachers, 1 full time SET and 1 full time SNA. Specific Roles and Responsibilities for this position relate to the four domains of Leadership and Management, taken from 'Looking at our School, 2022: A Quality framework for Primary Schools and Special Schools'
1. Leading Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
The following skills, knowledge, experience and competencies are desirable:
- An excellent level of understanding and knowledge of school leadership, management and administration in a primary school setting.
- Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with all staff members, Board of Management, parents/guardians and the wider school community
- An in-depth knowledge of the Primary Curriculum and a range of teaching experience within a Primary School in Ireland with a minimum of 5 years experience.
-Understanding and knowledge of the requirements associated with the provision of special education needs, inclusion and diversity
-Previous experience in policy development
-A commitment to, and evidence of continuing and relevant professional development
- The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with strong inter-personal skills that are essential in maintaining a happy, active and progressive school community, with high standards and expectations.
Recognised Certificate to teach Religious Education in a COI school.
The appointment will be subject to Garda Vetting, satisfactory references, Occupational Health Screening and the approval of the Patron
