The Board of Management of Ballygown National School, Castletownroche, Co. Cork invites applications for the position of Principal Teacher from August 27th, 2025.
Ballygown N.S. is a co-educational, rural primary school under the Patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Cloyne, Most Reverend William Crean.
The roles and responsibilities for the post of Principal are aligned to the four domains of leadership and management as specified in Circular 0044/2019:
1. Leading teaching and learning.
2. Managing the organisation.
3. Leading school development.
4. Developing leadership capacity.
Applicants for this position will ideally have:
• An understanding of and commitment to the Catholic ethos of Ballygown N.S. and an ability to support and promote school and parish links
• Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and foster positive relationships with pupils, staff members, Board of Management, parents and guardians and the wider school community.
• An excellent level of understanding and knowledge of school leadership, management and administration in a primary school.
• A commitment to shared leadership and a willingness to delegate and develop leadership capacity and empower others
• Proven leadership skills in a primary school
• An in-depth knowledge of the Primary Curriculum and a wide range of teaching experience within a primary school
• Understanding and knowledge of the requirements associated with the provision of Special Education Needs, inclusion and diversity
• Involvement in the development, implementation, operation and evaluation of innovative school-based initiatives.
• Previous experience in policy development.
• A commitment to and evidence of continuing and relevant professional development
Applications are invited by email only addressed for the attention of the Chairperson of the Board of Management from teachers who are fully registered with the Teaching Council. Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a primary school in Ireland. The appointment will be subject to Garda Vetting, satisfactory references, Occupational Health Screening and the approval of the Patron. A minimum of 3 applicants will be required for the process to proceed.
