Additional Information:
Scoil Chiaráin (Roll number: 19325J) is a special school for boys and girls from four to 18 years of age with a Mild General Learning Disability. Scoil Chiaráin is under the Patronage of the Dublin Diocese. The Board of Management is inviting applications for the position of Deputy Principal (Administrative). This is a permanent position. The appointment will be made via open competition.
In accordance with Circular 0044/2019 it should be noted that as the needs of the school continuously evolve a review of duties may result in reassignment of the role and responsibilities within the management team.
The Deputy Principal will work with the Principal and the In-school Leadership Team to support and develop effective leadership within the school. Specific Roles and Responsibilities for this position relate to the four domains of Leadership and Management as outlined in circular 0044/2019 as follows:
1. Leading the Teaching and Learning
2. Managing the Organisation
3. Leading School Development
4. Developing Leadership Capacity
In line with the above domains together the Principal, Deputy Principal, API and APII post holders form the Leadership and Management Team and will work with the Board of Management to ensure the effective management of the school. The Deputy Principal co-operates with the Principal in the fulfilment of the Principal's role and acts or deputises in the Principal's absence. The duties attached to the role involve whole school curricular development, policy development, day to day management of resources and personnel and long term strategic planning for the future development of the school.
The roles and responsibilities of this post will, at times, require the successful candidate to participate in the leadership role outside of the standard school day.
The following skills, knowledge, experience and competencies are desirable:
- An understanding and knowledge and experience in the area of special education, inclusive education and diversity in education
- Organisational skills, effective communication, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, to be able to work with the whole school staff, Board of Management, parents and the wider community
- A proven capacity in successfully leading and managing school teams with a willingness to delegate, develop leadership capacity and empower others
- The ability to promote a culture of learning, wellness and creativity in school
- Evidence of and a high commitment to ongoing professional development
- Proven leaderships skills, including policy development and implementation
- An ability to work collaboratively with staff and outside agencies to promote pupil wellbeing, a positive learning experience for each pupil and provide children with the knowledge, skills and competencies to help them deal with the challenges they encounter
- A knowledge of and commitment to the catholic ethos of the school. The Deputy Principal will be expected to uphold and promote the ethos, values and traditions of the school.
Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria:
Be fully registered with the Teaching Council under Route 1 (Primary), Route 4 (Other) or Route 2 (Post Primary) with the Teaching Council and have 5 years recognised teaching experience service, two of which must be in a recognised primary or post-primary school within the Republic of Ireland.
