Edmund Rice College is a co-educational school located in Carrigaline, Co. Cork that opened in September 2016 under the trusteeship of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust. The school will have 1st year and 2nd year students only in 2017/ 18. Projected enrolment at full capacity is 600. An ASD unit opened in Edmund Rice College in September 2016 with one special class and a second special class will open in September 2017. The school is located in a newly constructed school building with state of the art facilities for the ASD unit.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified teachers who will be responsible for leading the development and provision of inclusive post primary education for students with ASD. Candidates must be qualified for appointment as a Post Primary Teacher in accordance with Department of Education and Skills regulations and must be registered with the Teaching Council.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, in consultation with the school management, teaching staff, parents and other professionals, of an education programme appropriate to the needs of the students enrolled in the ASD unit. In particular they will be responsible for developing the following:
• Individual Education Plans
• Literacy and numeracy development strategies
• Behaviour management strategies
• Social, Personal and Health Education plans
• Appropriate reporting and recording mechanisms and procedures
• An Induction and Transition programme for students
The person appointed will be responsible for providing one to one and small group tuition to students enrolled when they are located in the ASD Special Class. They will also be responsible for liaising with and supporting teachers where students are integrated into mainstream subjects.
A key role of the person appointed will be to co-ordinate the activities and supports provided by Special Needs Assistants, to develop an appropriate model of support for SNAs in their work with the students, identify training and support mechanisms appropriate to the service.
The person appointed will be expected to liaise closely with parents and the primary schools or education services from which students are enrolling, and will interface with the multidisciplinary ASD teams working with students.
