General Information

Coláiste Éamann Rís is a progressive co-educational secondary school in the heart of Cork City– and at the heart of our school are the students. We believe that our students deserve the best, so we give the best through teaching, learning and extra-curricular activities.

We only recruit teachers who have a genuine passion for working with young people – in and out of the classroom.

We expect our teachers to be enthusiastic about their subjects, energetic and dynamic. Successful candidates are ones who can deliver interactive and innovative lessons that inspire and challenge our students.

Teachers need a wide range of skills and interventions to ensure class and homework are differentiated for ALL abilities. Of particular importance, is the realisation that teachers must seize moments for enrichment in their lessons (differentiation is not just about planning different work for weaker students, but also for pushing high achieving students through additional work or study)

Teachers must have excellent classroom management and should be able to anticipate moments that have the potential to disrupting lessons. Teachers need to understand that classroom management is about building good relationships with students based on mutual respect,

We have an extensive team teaching and peer observation programmes – successful candidates must have the ability to work closely with colleagues, open to feedback and be able to reflect on their own teaching practice.

Coláiste Éamann Rís has a strong culture of volunteerism. There is an expectation for staff to become involve in extra-curricular or co-curricular activities.

Our wide range of extra-curricular activities are demonstrated through our clubs and societies day for first year students, ensuring that there is ‘something for everyone’ to do after school.

In our school, co-curricular activities extend beyond subject department collaboration, staff are actively involved in school committees such as: Positive Behaviour Strategy Team, Teaching, Learning and Assessment Team, Literacy and Numeracy Teams– through these committees we deliver whole school strategies that help support the school’s DEIS Plan.

All teachers are involved and allocated to DEIS Plan committees.
As a DEIS school, applicants should have a passion for working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds and have a thorough understanding of the challenges they may face. Successful candidates will play a key role in the continued development of the school's DEIS plan.

Coláiste Éamann Rís is a very active and busy school, with over 700 students and 100 staff members. Teachers wishing to work in our school must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and have excellent communication skills that allow them to work with a broad range of staffs and staff.

As an Edmund Rice School, we expect our staff to uphold and promote the traditions and values of Blessed Edmund Rice throughout the time as teaching with us. Candidates called from interview should be familiar with the Edmund Rice Charter.

Shortlisting of candidates will apply. Due to the number of applicants we receive for positions, only those shortlisted for interview will be contacted.
