This is an Acting Teaching Principal position and it commences on 02/11/26.

The Valley National School is a rural, welcoming and inclusive school under the patronage of the Archbishop of Tuam. There are two mainstream teachers, one full time special education teacher, one special needs assistant and one part-time secretary and caretaker.

Roles and responsibilities for the post are set out in the domains of Leadership & Management as specified in the Circular 0044/2019:
1) Teaching and Learning
2) Managing the Organisation
3) Leading School Development
4) Developing Leadership Capacity

In addition, the following knowledge, competencies and skills are desirable:
• Proven leadership skills, including policy development and implementation and prioritising, planning and organising the workload
• Organisational capabilities in managing school resources
• An in-depth knowledge of the Primary Curriculum and previous teaching experience across a range of classes (multi-grade teaching experience is preferable)
• Proven ability to manage and work collaboratively with all staff members and the Board of Management.
• An ability to foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, the Board of Management and wider school community.
• Understanding and knowledge of Special Educational Needs, inclusion and diversity in education
• An understanding and a commitment to the school’s Catholic ethos and an ability to support and promote school / Parish links.
