Harold’s Cross Educate Together Secondary School (HCETSS) opened in August 2020 on the site of the former Greyhound Racing Stadium, Harold’s Cross. This is also the permanent location of the school which when built will ultimately accommodate 1000 students and will have four special classes.
We are looking for an Autism Programme Lead to continue the development of an outstanding support structure for children enrolled in our AS class, ‘The Grove’. This class opened in September 2021. The programme lead will also play a crucial leadership role as we open additional AS classes when we eventually move into our permanent accommodation.
They will work with all staff in promoting the benefits of an autism friendly school to all learners.
The successful candidate must be a team player who displays the HCETSS team attributes of humility, commitment and common sense and who is willing to collaborate closely with teachers, our ASN(SEN) Coordinator, support staff and others in creating a vibrant learning environment. Linking with outside agencies is an important aspect of the role.
The successful candidate will play a lead role in class set-up and programme design tailored to the needs of individual children.
The successful candidate will have an allocation of time for planning and for meetings with parents, staff and outside agencies and will be assisted by mainstream teachers who will provide additional supports in areas such as numeracy, literacy, Art, Music and PE.
The ideal candidate will have:
An additional qualification in an area related to the education of learners with autism/ autistic learners.
AND/OR
Experience of working in a class for learners with autism with an extensive record of CPD in the area.
AND
An enthusiasm about working in this area and a willingness to undertake training and additional CPD.
The school will also offer a coaching and mentoring programme to support our staff's continuous professional development as well as building leadership capacity within our school.
Students in the school use iPads and the integration of technology into learning and teaching will be an important element in the school's approach.
