An internal panel of suitable applicants may be set up to fill vacancies which may occur within a specific time period (four months for teacher posts and the duration of the school year for SNA posts) from the date on which the Board approves the successful candidate.
Additional Information:
St. Anthony’s Special School is a school catering for children aged 4-18 years old who have Mild Intellectual Disabilities and who may have other disabilities including ASD, physical disabilities, various syndromes and/or sensory-visual-aural impairments. We have a highly dedicated staff team who work with the children to achieve their full potential and are looking for someone to join us.
The primary school curriculum is followed by primary age students and the post-primary aged students engage in the Junior Cycle Level 1/2 Programme. This post is initially for a class of 8 post primary age students (15-16 yrs old) in a mixed group including teenagers with Mild GLD, ASD, medical needs and physical disabilities. Familiarity and experience of JCL1/2 curricula, PECS, ISL, ASD TEACCH, Sensory methodologies and Positive Behaviour Strategies is an advantage. Excellent interpersonal, communication and team skills are essential.
Experience working with students with SEN is desirable but genuine enthusiasm, interest, and dedication to working with the students to develop them to their full potential are more important qualities that we will be looking for.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic and have a genuine interest in special education.
They will be able to demonstrate experience and understanding of special needs classroom planning and have a competency in augmentative communication and assisted teaching technologies for pupils with intellectual disabilities. They will be able to show how they would lead a class team of SNAs. They will have experience in co-ordinating Individual Education Plans, working from behavioural support plans and managing challenging behaviour proactively. Experience working with children or teenagers in a special school setting will be a distinct advantage for candidates considering the position.
Successful applicants will be expected to attend Croke Park hours on 30th of August.
