POST DETAILS

Title:
Tutor (part time) (Ref T 0918) 21 hours p/week x 1
Description:
The Carline Learning Centre is looking to recruit a very special tutor. The Carline Centre is a Centre for young people aged 13-17 years, who are unable to manage mainstream schooling. Our staff team encourages and motivates these young people to engage in a system they are disillusioned with.

Some of the attributes we are looking for are: an energetic, patient and very understanding tutor. This individual must be highly motivated to work with these young people in a creative and innovative manner.

The post is 21 hours/week and the school year runs from September-June. Administration time is very limited and like tutors in a mainstream setting prep work must be done outside of the actual teaching hours. This tutor attends a 30 minute weekly team meeting to discuss matters that may be arising with young people in their class. Eighteen direct teaching hours are provided to the young people up to Junior Certificate level. The tutor will be supported by a Social Care Worker assigned to their classroom.

The Centre adopts the primary school approach where the tutor works with the same group of young people for the year. There will be approximately 10 – 15 young people in each class.
The classrooms offer a very welcoming, nurturing and homely environment. The tutor must be an excellent team player; working on a multi-disciplinary team with Social Care workers, the Centre Counsellor, parents, external agencies under the direction of the Centre Manager.

Carline acts as a safe harbour to the young people. The focus is to enable them to develop confidence, self-esteem and coping skills whilst building up an educational portfolio. Carline’s success is measured not exclusively by educational achievement but rather by the number of young people able to return to mainstream school or other training services. Carline is not an alternative school.

Carline strives to provide the Junior Certificate but the tutor we are looking for must be adaptable to the needs of the young people and strike the correct balance between the curriculum and the needs of the individual young people.

Carline is a very special place. Because of the type of vulnerable young people we work with this tutor will be nurturing, supporting and be understanding of their needs. A sense of fun is very welcome too!
If you would like to be considered for this role, please request an application form from recruit@carlinecentre.com and submit your completed application forms with a covering letter, stating why you think you are suitable. Applications are open to primary and post primary qualified teachers who are registered with the teaching council. Experience of working with young people/children with behavioural or learning support needs would be an advantage
