Additional Information:
This SNA post is very specifically to support communication, through Irish Sign Language (ISL), for a pupil in our Deaf Facility. The pupils in our Deaf Facility comprise of girls and boys.The successful candidate should have a high proficiency in ISL in order to support the student’s needs, and sufficient language skills to support communication between teacher and pupil, pupil and teacher, and all other members of the school community and the pupil in question. The duties will also relate to supporting communication in sign language between teachers, staff, students who use ISL and those who don’t, both in the school’s Deaf Facility and in Mainstream. The duties will include the teaching of ISL to other staff members when and if the need arises, as part of Croke Park Hours.
This position is that of SNA, a Department of Education & Skills (DES) employee, with all usual SNA terms and conditions attaching. The successful candidate will be placed on the appropriate point of the SNA salary scale, having due regard to their experience.
This position has been sanctioned by the Special Education Section of the DES as an interim arrangement until such time that the provisions of the Irish Sign Language Act 2017, which provides for a programme of ISL to be introduced in schools, is implemented.
Sufficiently high proficiency in ISL and good communication skills as an interpreter are the essential requirements for applicants of this post.
